Hip & Buttock Overview
Sciatica, also known as sciatica syndrome, refers to back pain that’s caused by a problem with the sciatic nerve—a large nerve that runs from your lower back down the back of each leg.
Sharp shooting pains down the back of the leg and into the foot may indicate a problem up in the back of the hip. A tight piriformis muscle can severely irritate the sciatic nerve.
» Posterior Femoral Cutaneous Nerve Entrapment
The most common symptom of this nerve injury is the inability to sit without pain or discomfort. Most of the time, people with this injury can walk and run pain free. Symptoms can range from a dull, achy pain to numbness and tingling in the tailbone and upper hamstring areas.
Muscles of the upper leg (Quads – front of the upper leg, Hamstrings – back of the upper leg, and Groin – inside of the upper leg) are susceptible to injury through both overuse and sudden movement.
“They do such a great job in explaining the type of injury you have, what it’s going to take in treating the injury and then your responsibility in the course of the treatments. The patient teaching they do is so very helpful-explaining why the certain exercises are important and how they will help. Spine and Sports is the best!“
